I just returned home from CodeMash 2017
As always, I leave there energized and inspired for the year and I always come home with a mountain of new ideas and things to learn. CodeMash is such an amazing community and event. There is so much to do, so many sessions to attend, so many people to see, and so much waterpark!
I cloned and downloaded more git repos in the last 4 days than I have in, well, since CodeMash 2016.
It’s important to continue learning new things and improving existing skills, but it’s also important to set attainable goals and maintain a sustainable pace. On the drive home I imagined myself mastering Rust, Go, F#, and learning a ton of new languages and technologies. Attempting to master all of that by February is good way to get burned out, so I’ll have to eat this year’s elephant one bite at a time.
As I always tell my kids about the piano and soccer, you have to practice if you want to get better, so I’ll be setting my goals and putting together a plan for the coming weeks and months to practice.
